Housebuilder Membership

Eligibility for UK House Builders to Join the ACQP

The Association of Construction Quality Professionals exists to raise, protect, and promote standards of quality across the construction industry. House builders and residential developers play a crucial role in shaping the built environment, and the ACQP welcomes applications from those who are committed to building homes of lasting quality, safety, and compliance.

Membership of the ACQP is open to house builders, residential developers, and their senior leadership teams, provided the following eligibility criteria are met:

1. Commitment to Quality and Compliance

The business must demonstrate a genuine commitment to construction quality and to building homes that comply with all statutory requirements, Building Regulations, and recognised best practice. Builders should be registered with, and working to, recognised warranty or compliance providers such as NHBC, LABC Warranty, Premier Guarantee, BOPAS, or similar schemes. The company should actively encourage and support continuous improvement in design, workmanship, and customer service.

2. Housebuilder Membership Status

House builders normally apply for Housbuilder Membership of the ACQP.
Housebuilde Membership allows the company to be represented as an organisation, while also enabling the nomination of directors, managers, and key staff who will benefit from ACQP resources, CPD, and events.
This structure ensures that both the business entity and its individual professionals are part of the ACQP community.

3. Professional Standards and Conduct

The applicant company must agree to uphold the values and Code of Conduct of the ACQP, which emphasise:
Integrity and honesty in all dealings.
Transparency in quality inspections and handover processes.
Accountability for workmanship and compliance.
House builders must be willing to engage with the ACQP on independent inspections, quality benchmarking, and industry reporting where appropriate.

4. Eligibility Requirements

The company must be a registered UK business, operating either regionally or nationally in the residential construction sector.
The applicant should provide details of its track record of projects (completed or in progress), demonstrating the scale and scope of its operations.
A senior director or manager should be nominated as the primary point of contact with the ACQP.
The company should confirm its willingness to support and encourage the professional development of its staff, including participation in ACQP CPD sessions, training initiatives, and technical forums.

5. Engagement and Benefits

By joining the ACQP, Housebuilders:
Gain recognition as a quality-driven organisation, reinforcing credibility with clients, warranty providers, and homeowners.
Access a programme of CPD events, technical updates, and quality improvement workshops.
Promote their Sites as am ACQP Quality Plus+ Site, setting themselves apart from the competition.
Receive opportunities for networking and collaboration with other professionals, consultants, and specialists in the quality and compliance sector.
Can demonstrate corporate commitment to quality when tendering, seeking investment, or marketing to potential buyers.
Benefit from the ACQP seal of membership, a mark of professionalism that sets them apart from competitors.

6. Application Process

Interested companies should submit a Housebuilder Membership Application Form, including details of their business registration, senior contacts, and evidence of compliance/warranty arrangements.
Applications will be reviewed by the ACQP Membership Panel.
Successful applicants will be welcomed into membership, issued with a Corporate Membership Certificate, Membership Promotional items for their sites (Banners, Site Boards, Posters, Flags) and given access to member resources, events, and support.

7. Collaborating with the ACQP Quality Plus+ Scheme

The Quality Plus+ Scheme is an independent, professional endorsement programme that supports house builders in embedding a culture of quality across their projects. Unlike warranty inspections or regulatory checks, the scheme is focused on:

Proactive quality assurance rather than reactive defect management.
Benchmarking and reporting that highlights areas of strength and improvement.
Recognition of best practice, rewarding those who consistently deliver high standards.
Defects and rework remain one of the biggest hidden costs in UK house building. Independent studies and industry surveys show that poor workmanship, inadequate supervision, and late-stage snagging can cost house builders millions of pounds every year.
The ACQP Quality Plus+ Scheme directly tackles this issue by helping builders eliminate defects at source, reduce reliance on reactive snagging, and introduce a culture of right first time building.
It provides homeowners, clients, and stakeholders with visible confidence that a builder is not only meeting minimum legal requirements, but is committed to higher standards.

In summary:

Any UK house builder who is committed to quality, compliance, and professionalism is eligible to apply for ACQP membership. The Association is particularly keen to welcome builders who see the long-term value in raising standards, sharing best practice, and putting quality at the heart of house building.
