Practical professional development

Four Saturdays designed around the realities of construction management.

This programme has been developed for professionals who supervise, manage, inspect or coordinate construction work and want stronger practical knowledge across quality, building safety, drawings, compliance and site leadership.

Rather than treating each subject in isolation, the four workshops build a broader management understanding of how design information, installation quality, evidence, communication and leadership come together on a live construction project.

Delegates will work through practical examples, construction defects, photographs, drawings and site-based scenarios, with discussion focused on preventing problems before they become costly rework or compliance issues.

Each Saturday concentrates on a different area of construction supervision and management, with practical examples and discussion throughout the day.

Saturday 1

Construction Quality Management & Defect Prevention

  • Quality planning, inspections and verification

Building Safety, Fire Safety & Compartmentation

  • Fire doors and service penetrations
  • Recognising poor or non-compliant installation
  • Evidence, recording and traceability
  • Knowing when work should be challenged or rejected

Reading Drawings, Specifications & Identifying Non-Conformance

  • Drawings, specifications and schedules
  • Manufacturers' requirements and approved details
  • Spotting discrepancies before work proceeds
  • RFIs, NCRs and recording technical concerns
  • Checking installation against design information
  • Managing changes and avoiding assumptions on site

  • Managing trades, contractors and performance
