Practical learning, on your project

Build competence where the work happens.

Put learning into practice straight away. An ACQP professional works alongside your workforce, explaining installation methods, discussing workmanship and helping people understand the requirements behind the work they carry out.

Training focuses on relevant regulations, project specifications and manufacturers' installation instructions, with guidance tailored to the systems and tasks on your site.

Individual evidence of competence

A SKEB competence report for every operative.

At the end of the on-site training programme, each operative will receive an individual ACQP SKEB competence report, recording the work observed, the evidence reviewed and the areas for further development.

SKEB means Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours. Together, these describe the practical capability and professional approach a person needs for the work they undertake.

Skills

The practical ability to carry out the tasks covered, use tools appropriately and follow the specified installation method.

Knowledge

Understanding the system, manufacturers' instructions, project details and the checks needed to recognise acceptable workmanship.

Experience

Relevant work history and examples reviewed alongside the tasks observed during training, with any limits or gaps in the evidence recorded.

Behaviours

Working responsibly, communicating clearly, raising concerns and recognising when to stop and seek advice.

What the individual report will cover

  • The operative, site, training dates and instructor.
  • The tasks, systems and installation requirements covered.
  • Observed work, practical discussions and evidence reviewed against SKEB.
  • Findings on demonstrated competence for the assessed tasks, including areas needing further evidence, training or supervision.
  • Recommended development actions and review points.

Why proof of competence matters in construction

Employers need credible evidence that people can apply their learning to the work they are asked to do. A clear record of observed performance helps them make informed decisions about task allocation, supervision and further training.

The ACQP report gives each operative a record of their progress and provides evidence employers can use in workforce competence records, quality assurance reviews and discussions with clients and contractors. Identifying gaps also helps target support before workmanship problems are repeated.

In England, Building Regulations competence requirements call for individuals to demonstrate the SKEB needed for their role. Read the Building Safety Regulator's competence guidance.

Separately, HSE's CDM 2015 guidance requires contractors to check workers' skills, knowledge, training and experience, and provide appropriate supervision. See HSE's guidance for contractors.

A report grounded in the work assessed. Findings reflect the evidence available at the time and are specific to the tasks and systems assessed. Employers should use the report alongside qualifications, relevant experience and ongoing supervision, with review when duties, systems or working conditions change.
