Understanding and Managing the Building Safety Levy

From 1 October 2026, the new Building Safety Levy will apply to qualifying residential developments across England. The levy will generally affect major developments involving 10 or more new dwellings or 30 or more purpose-built student accommodation bedspaces, subject to specific exemptions. Charges will be calculated per square metre, with rates varying according to the local authority area and whether the development is on previously developed land.
